As Nigeria's mobility and delivery market continues to adjust following Uber's exit earlier this month, DelivaHere, a Nigerian peer-to-peer delivery marketplace, is accelerating its strategy to build a locally relevant, scalable and sustainable platform for moving packages across Nigeria.

In the weeks since Uber's departure after more than a decade in Nigeria, mobility and delivery platforms have been repositioning to serve customers, businesses and drivers seeking alternatives. For DelivaHere, the ongoing market shift underscores both the challenges of operating in Nigeria's rapidly evolving marketplace and the growing need for innovative business models designed around local market realities.

DelivaHere believes the future of package delivery in Nigeria will increasingly be shaped by technology-enabled marketplaces that connect people who need to send items with individuals and logistics providers who have the capacity to deliver them.

“Uber's exit is an important moment for Nigeria's technology and mobility ecosystem. Our response is not to celebrate the departure of another operator. Uber helped demonstrate the power of technology marketplaces in transforming how people access transportation and delivery services. Rather, this moment reinforces the need to continue developing innovative platforms that are designed around the realities of the Nigerian market.”

Dr. Tunde Adeyemo, Founder & CEO, DelivaHere

A Different Approach to Delivery

Unlike a traditional courier company built primarily around a dedicated fleet of vehicles, DelivaHere operates a peer-to-peer delivery marketplace.

Through the DelivaHere platform, Senders can create delivery requests, make delivery offers and receive bids from Delivery Partners interested in completing those deliveries. Senders retain the ability to evaluate available options and select the Delivery Partner that best meets their requirements.

For Delivery Partners, the model creates flexible earning opportunities. Individuals can participate in the marketplace based on their availability, preferred routes and the deliveries they are willing to undertake.

DelivaHere's longer-term vision extends beyond conventional dispatch operations. The company is building an ecosystem in which individuals already travelling between locations, professional delivery operators, Parcel Centers and other transportation networks can contribute available logistics capacity to a common marketplace.

“We believe there is enormous unused transportation capacity around us every day. People, vehicles and transportation networks are constantly moving between locations. Our technology is designed to intelligently connect some of that available capacity with people and businesses that need packages moved. That can create earning opportunities while expanding delivery capacity without requiring every delivery to depend on a traditional dedicated dispatch model.”

Expanding Opportunities for Businesses and Delivery Partners

As businesses, consumers and mobility workers reassess their options in the changing market, DelivaHere is accelerating initiatives aimed at increasing both the supply and demand sides of its marketplace.

The company is intensifying the recruitment of Delivery Partners, including experienced mobility-platform drivers and other qualified individuals seeking additional earning opportunities through package delivery.

DelivaHere is also increasing its engagement with small and medium-sized businesses, online merchants, retailers and other organizations that require flexible delivery capabilities. The company expects to place particular emphasis on businesses that make frequent local deliveries and need alternatives that provide greater flexibility and access to a broader delivery network.

“Nigeria's entrepreneurs should have multiple options for moving their products. Whether it is a fashion entrepreneur sending an order to a customer, a business moving documents between offices, or an individual sending a package to a family member, our objective is to make accessing delivery capacity increasingly simple.”

Accelerating DelivaHere's Lagos Expansion

DelivaHere began building its marketplace from Ibadan, Oyo State, where it has been developing and validating its operating model.

In response to the evolving market opportunity, the company is accelerating the development of its Delivery Partner network and market presence in Lagos, while continuing to strengthen operations in Ibadan and pursue its broader expansion strategy.

Rather than relying primarily on large investments in company-owned delivery fleets, DelivaHere intends to preserve an asset-light marketplace approach, supplemented where appropriate by operational safety-net capacity. The company believes this structure could help the platform adapt more effectively to fluctuations in transportation costs, demand, geography and Delivery Partner availability.

Building More Ways to Access Delivery

DelivaHere is also investing in making delivery services accessible beyond a traditional mobile-app experience.

The company is developing AI-enabled channels designed to allow customers to initiate delivery requests through conversational interfaces, including WhatsApp and voice-based interactions. The objective is simple: customers should increasingly be able to describe what they need delivered, where it should be picked up and where it needs to go, while technology assists them in creating and managing the delivery request.

“The future of delivery should not require customers to learn complicated processes. Our vision is that whether a customer chooses an app, WhatsApp, voice interaction or visits a physical Parcel Center, these channels can ultimately connect into the same DelivaHere marketplace.”

A Nigerian Platform Built for Nigerian Market Realities

DelivaHere believes the ongoing reshaping of Nigeria's mobility sector offers an important reminder that technology alone is not sufficient to build sustainable marketplaces.

Successful platforms must address affordability for customers, viable economics for service providers, trust and safety, regulatory requirements, payment infrastructure and the unique operating realities of the communities they serve.

DelivaHere's marketplace is therefore being developed around principles that include choice, flexible pricing, trust, technology-enabled matching and broad participation in delivery capacity.

“Nigeria remains an extraordinary market for technology-enabled services. The opportunity is enormous, but sustainable innovation requires models that work for all sides of the marketplace. We are building DelivaHere with that principle at the center.”

An Invitation to Nigeria's Delivery Community

As DelivaHere enters its next phase, the company is inviting prospective Delivery Partners, businesses, merchants and individuals to join its growing network.

For former mobility-platform drivers and other vehicle owners, DelivaHere offers the possibility of adding package delivery to their existing economic activities without necessarily abandoning other platforms or sources of income.

For businesses, the company intends to provide access to an expanding community of Delivery Partners capable of competing for delivery opportunities through the marketplace.

“There is room in Nigeria for multiple successful mobility and logistics platforms. Our focus is on doing our part exceptionally well: building a trusted marketplace that makes it easier for people to send packages while enabling others to earn by helping those packages reach their destinations. We believe this moment presents an opportunity to accelerate that mission.”
